Meet the LAGON BLEU team

Name:
Jean Pierre de Falbaire

Function Eco-Sud:
President of the Lagon Bleu Committee/active team member

Summary:
Jean-Pierre grew up in Pointe Desny, Mauritius. He spent 15 years in Zimbabwe, first few years as a bush pilot, where he was impressed by the conservation of the country's national parks. When he returned to Mauritius, he wanted to do something similar to protect his own country's national reserve and beauty. Lagon Bleu was created in an effort to preserve the lagoon of Pointe d'Esny.

Sebastien Sauvage

Function Eco-Sud:
President of the Lagon Bleu Committee/active team member

Summary:
Involved in many associations (Ecosud, Association Rhizome Concept...) he distinguishes himself by his research and assimilation skills which enable him to frequently integrate and establish many new concepts and ideas. He is in charge of the "CSR-NGO" and "Innovative Project Development" sectors of Rhizome Ltd. His academic background, European work experience, deep rooted attachment to his home-island and people give him an easy presence with people from all walks of life. This skill is a valuable asset in the framework of the management of the stakeholders panel, seminars and training sessions.

Doris Seneque

Function Eco-Sud:
Secretary/awareness raiser for the community/active team member

Summary:
Doris is one of the founder members of the group of residents in Blue Bay who started taking action to protect the Blue Bay Marine Park in 1999 and also a founding member of the NGO Eco-Sud which was registered in 2000. She has been Eco-Sud's secretary from inception to date.

Pramod Kumar Chumun (Shashi)

Function:
Project Manager

Summary:

Shashi joined the Lagon Bleu team in 2017. He has a PhD in Environment and Energy Systems from Shizuoka University, Japan and specialises on the impacts of anthropogenic and climate change-driven stresses on the physiology of corals. He is currently overseeing the projects under the Lagon Bleu program.

Sydney Perrine

Function:
Project Officer

Summary:

Sydney joined the Lagon Bleu program in November 2015. In the past, he worked for several different NGOs including SHOALS Rodrigues for 14 years and Reef Conservation in Mauritius. He is a certified PADI Divemaster and is using his experience and knowledge in community engagement through our Awareness and Education program. He also actively participates in the monitoring of fish and coral species in the lagoon of Blue Bay.

Hanista Jhumun

Function:
Assistant Program Manager

Summary:

Hanista has graduated from the University of Mauritius with a degree in BSc (Hons) Marine Science and Technology in 2015. She was on an internship from January 2016 to June 2017under the Youth Employment Programme where she has been working with Technical and Scientific Officers at the Albion Fisheries Research Center and the Fishing Training and Extension Center. She then joined the Lagon Bleu team in 2017 and she is currently working on projects related to marine conservation, awareness campaign and education programme.

Vasisht Seetapah

Function:
Marine Guide Instructor

Summary:

Vasisht holds a BSc in Marine & Freshwater Sciences and Conservation Biology from the Edith Cowan University, Australia. He initially joined the Lagon Bleu Project as an intern before being recruited as a Marine Guide Instructor in January 2018. In his current role, Vasisht trains and sensitises stakeholders of the Grand Port lagoon, specifically those linked to the tourism industry on the marine environment for its better protection.

Alasdair Harris, PhD

Function:
Technical advisor

Summary:
He has spent much of his time working on marine conservation issues in the Indian Ocean and is keen to help with the project. He is a member of the World Commission on Protected Areas, recipient of the 2010 IUCN World Conservation Union's Young Conservationist Award and winner of the 2009 Condé Nast Environment Award. Currently based in Madagascar.
